Centennial Celebration
![]()
Hunt, at the forks of the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country, became a town in 1912. The Hunt community will celebrate 100 years of history on May 19, 2012. Hunt is known for its scenic vistas, summer camps and the clean and sparkling river.
The Centennial Celebration will feature programs, exhibitions, demonstrations, and activities throughout the day. The celebration on the 19th will begin at 9am with the opening ceremonies and a parade through historic downtown Hunt. Food and music will be available throughout the day at the nearby Hunt restaurants. In the evening, the celebration will continue at Crider’s Rodeo & Dance Hall with a real, live Ranch Rodeo and Dance. This is going to be a great family outing!
Discover what gave Hunt its rich heritage by joining residents and visitors in this day long celebration at the Hunt Preservation Park.

How Hunt was Born
Aubry R. “Babe” Taylor, Jr. is the grandson of the founders of Hunt, Alva Curtis Joy and Lizzie Lock Joy. To honor his grandfather during Hunt’s Centennial Celebration, Babe wrote and recorded a song “How Hunt Was Born.” In his song, Babe expresses his pride for his grandpa’s contributions to, in Babe’s words, “the nicest little town that you will ever see.”
